Healthy Green Smoothie Recipe with Spinach and Berries

Our First Smoothie Recipe

Hey guys, it’s Laura Williams here with and we are in the kitchen again.

We’re starting a series on smoothie recipes.

So this is the first recipe we’re doing.

Why You’ll Love This Smoothie

Why You’ll Love This

You hear a lot about green smoothies and there are green products in this smoothie.

However, because of the berries we’re using, they’re so bright that it may turn the smoothie more of a purplish, almost a brownish color, which is unfortunate, but we’ll hope for more purple this time.

I don’t claim that the smoothie is super low calorie. It’s super healthy, but it’s not necessarily super low calorie.

We like using frozen berries because it makes it cold.

See how even though we use so much of the spinach, um, and the avocado, it’s still ending up a nice purpley color.

Which is perfect.

It’s real appealing looking, so like if you’re serving it to kids or to someone who’s not familiar with the green smoothie, you can actually get away with adding the spinach and the avocado without scaring anyone.

Which is nice.

It’s a good kind of intro green smoothie.

Ingredients for Smoothie

Ingredients

  • organic baby spinach, approximately four cups packed
  • about a cup, a little bit less of plain almond milk
  • reduced fat Greek yogurt
  • a whole avocado
  • a cup of frozen raspberries
  • a little more than a cup of frozen blueberries

Smoothie Preparation Instructions

Instructions

  1. just start adding the ingredients to our blender.
  2. I like to have the liquid at the bottom to start with so that we’ve got that available.
  3. I like to have some of the berries in there towards the bottom as well.
  4. Get the avocado in there and I just squeeze mine in there.
  5. I have to take out the seed from the other side.
  6. So I just dig out the seed with my hand.
  7. Just squeeze it in there.
  8. for the spinach, because it does reduce quite a bit, you just start packing it in there.
  9. add the rest after it started to blend down a little bit.
  10. Add some more of the fruit on top.
  11. Add some more spinach in there.
  12. I’ll probably add a little bit more milk here in a second.
  13. I like adding the spinach on top too, because you can add it by hand without getting your hands all gunky.
  14. Then I push it in there more to get it a little more mixed with my spoon.
  15. add just a touch more milk.
  16. We didn’t quite have a cup before, so we’ll get up to about a cup now.
  17. Now we’re going to add the last few berries, the last little bit of spinach.
  18. One more blend and we’ll be done.
  19. this particular blender, excuse me, actually has the blades inside the blender.
  20. So I always take them out before pouring.
  21. Remove those.
  22. We are ready to enjoy our smoothies.

Smoothie Cooking Tips and Serving

Cooking Tips

you can choose whatever you want.

This smoothie recipe can be for at least two, possibly three.

If I were making it for one, I’d use half an avocado, maybe a third of an avocado.

I’ll do it other ways, but it’s pretty easy, especially if they’re ripe, they come out pretty easily.

Now you can add whatever ingredients you want or even spices to your smoothies.

Um, I’m a big fan of, uh, making it work in the kitchen.

So what you have on hand, the fruits and vegetables that you like, um, I suggest just, just using what you like.

You may use more or less depending on how’s bigger, bigger blender is.

Like I said, because our blender isn’t super fancy, you may have to kind of help it along, especially with, um, frozen products and with the Greek yogurt, it’s pretty thick and we like our smoothies thick, so that’s not a big deal.

But, um, if you like them thinner, you can add more, more milk.

If you lose a few pieces, that’s okay.

Serving Suggestions

It’s real appealing looking, so like if you’re serving it to kids or to someone who’s not familiar with the green smoothie, you can actually get away with adding the spinach and the avocado without scaring anyone.

All right.

So we’ve got our smoothie.

And with just a little bit left over, you have the perfect amount.

Thanks for tuning in.
